I am a 60 year old single woman who has battled colon cancer for the past 11 years. I have had 2 major surgeries removing much of my inner and outer colon. I have no health insurance, I am unemployed, and keep getting denied government assistance. I have over $30,000 in past medical bills as a result of my cancer surgeries, chemo, and radiation therapies. My ex-husband left me as soon as I was diagnosed in 2002, after 17 years of marriage. I receive $400 in alimony, and that is all I live on each month. I am ashamed for having to resort to begging, but I am not far from being homeless. I am late paying my rent every month, and can only afford an average of 1 meal a day. My health is beginning to go down hill again and I know I will not be able to keep going without a roof over my head. Before I was diagnosed with cancer, I was a teacher's aid at a small one room school house in marin county, but my current health prevents me from working a regular job. I have 4 children who are grown, but they all have financial issues of their own. I am sinking and do not know what to do. I am writing this as a last resort. If anyone has any idea's that could help me in my dire situation, I would appreciate it very much.
